Which is more wear resistant, cast or forged steel balls?

1. Casting steel balls involves pouring qualified molten steel into molds, cooling it to form shape, and then undergoing quenching and tempering treatment. The cast steel balls after heat treatment have high hardness, with HRC reaching up to 66-68HRC. They are characterized by excellent wear resistance, low loss, and high cost performance, making them highly suitable for use in ball mills.

2. Forged steel balls are made by heating custom-made steel and then repeatedly forging or hot-rolling it into shape, followed by residual heat quenching and tempering treatment. The forged steel balls after heat treatment have a hardness of HRC between 58 and 62. They are characterized by good toughness and strong impact resistance, making them highly suitable for use in large semi-autogenous mills.

15 years of experience have taught me that whether it is cast steel balls or forged steel balls, raw materials must be strictly selected, the production process must be refined to perfection, and the heat treatment process is of vital importance. Each steel ball must be consistent both inside and out. Dexin suggests that we should select the appropriate type of steel balls based on the actual working conditions. We offer professional selection guidance.
